The above photograph was contained within a Royal Canadian Army recruiting brochure advertising the Canadian
Provost Corps in the 1950s. No.1 Provost Company was formed in 1939 in Ottawa as the first Provost Company
to deploy overseas with the 1st Canadian Division and upon arrival in England was located at the British army Camp,
Aldershot. This Company was initially manned by active members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
who in the early stages of it's development wore RCMP shoulder flashes on their tunics, along with the RCMP badge
on their headgear. This was essentially; the birth of the Canadian provost Corps as the Service Police of the
Canadian Army.
